    1.6 to 2.2

concidering selliny my astra mk 3 door 1.6 16v and buying a 2.2, question is would it be a good move? all i want really is the traction control, abs and a bit more grunt tbh without it bein a lot worse on fuel, even tho my car only gets around 35mpg tops, usually around 30 wen i drive it enthusiasticlly, so would it be a good move?

TBH the 1.8 SRi would be better. Cheaper on fuel, quicker 0-60 times due to a close ratio gearbox, more of them about so they are cheaper, ABS, TC, ESP, so they are the same spec

half a sec doesnt sound like much in terms of real world driving. 1.8 would be cheaper to insure and run too.

personally id go straight for the 2.2! i had the 1.6 8v and went for the 2.2 and i loved it! had it 2yr and then needed something quicker! drive it steady and its ok on fuel! the 1.8 are like parents! everyone has them! 2.2 are more rare. hardly seen any 2.2 sri round my way! nothing wrong with the 1.8 at all so try both and see!!

Stuff it, the 2.2 isn't regarded as a fast 2.2 If you're trading up you might as well go gsi or sri turbo. Will cost a little more but give you a bigger smile.

    you mention fuel return...

when i was looking for a 1.8 i was given tales of about 26/27 - 40mpg. Bit of a range

Done a few fill ups. Mine's ranged from 31mpg - 33mpg at the mo & i've not even driven it hard yet.

I didn't think there was much difference between the 1.6 and 1.8 engines in terms of oooph. Isn't the 1.8 just a bored out 1.6???

I used to have a 1.8 and now have the 2.2. I really notice the difference in performance, but not in the fuel bills

Its so easy to go silly fast without realising especially cruising on the motorway, gets up to 70 easily and is then happy to keep on pulling. With my 1.8 you could tell how fast it was going by the engine screams.
