    remote locking

    hiya,

I'm thinking of getting a spare key for my astra as I don't like only having one. I'm looking on ebay and I have a question, my current fob has 2 buttons, lock & unlock. I've seen one on ebay that has 3 buttons, lock, unlock and boot. Would this work on my astra do you think or would the boot button be useless?

think about it for a second

how do you currently open your boot....

    a) old fashioned big metal button that u have to physically press

    or

    b) a small solenoid that u just have to touch that electronically opens it

Basically it wont work.... its only aimed at the soft touch solenoid ones found on latest generation models where it can be opened remotely

if u havent got a 2nd key at all then youll need a blank key blade, a remote and have it programmed to your vehicle using Tech2 or similar at Vaxhall or a specialist..... expect to pay approx £120+ for all the above!

can get a blank and a fob off ebay for not very much, would just see how much it would cost to get recoded. I believe there is diagnostic software you can get for your laptop which mainly reads fault codes but some will let you code keys?

Point taken about the boot lock. Just thought I'd ask just in case :P

Surely you have to supply the Vauxhall key code, that came with the car as well ?

Get eh key fob from eBay, then get vxl to supply the key blade (it maybe cheaper to get a shoe repair place to cut it) and get vxl to reprogram it. Should only cost about £50. But you will need the car pass thingie.
