    Random high oil consumption (Y20DTH)

Check the oil weekly, last weekend the dipstick said it was 'over full' went and checked it this morning and its down on the minimum Yet for the last 4 - 5 weeks its been constantly 'over full' from when I last topped it up. It had a big service back in May and has done around 4 - 6k since (I dont drive it everyday so dont keep track)

What oil did you use? Something different to the normal?

I used to do 5k oil changes on my 2.0DTi with semi-syn 10W40. Once I changed it with 5W30 fully synthetic and it drank it in less than 600 miles. Put 10W40 back in and it was fine again.

AFAIK its just 10W/40 Castrol Diesel oil (white bottle), cost a pretty penny at £9 for 2 litres or something.....

Should be OK. I prefered the GTD Magnatec (black bottle).

Well my 2003 2.0DTi was supposed to do 20k on an oil change. After about 8k it would get very tappety and the top end got very noisy, so I changed to to a 6k interval.

Mine would gallop oil the odd time, then it would be fine again.

Ah I know what you mean about it sounding tappy, I was wondering why it was starting to get noisier, I thought it was just down to the cold weather starts etc, as it doesnt do long journeys, missus ues it for going to work and back 7 miles each way which is just about enough time for it to warm up

Will look into getting the oil dropped and changed, might do it when it gulps a shedload more down then, every little helps lol
