Astra G 1.8 jerky ride at low speeds.

    Hi,

My 1.8 G has trouble running smoothly at low revs.

I've followed the advice for cleaning the throttle body and this has greatly improved the tick over.

I'm still having trouble driving smoothly at low speeds, there seems to be a "flat spot" in the set-off where the revs drop as I move off causing the car to hesitate. Using high revs helps of course but it shouldn't be necessary. The car has a new clutch BTW.

Iíve read elsewhere that cleaning the ERG valve might help. Does this sound reasonable? If so is there a really simple illustrated guide to removal and cleaning for my engine? I canít even find the thing; Iím pretty clueless about cars.

    Any other ideas are welcome!

    Cheers.

i gotta say this has started happening to mine .. tho i put it down to the freezing weather and the extended time it takes to warm up.

plus excess weight in the boot didnt help lol

im gonna loose the spare wheel tonight to help i know it sounds stupid but tbh its alot of weight that i carry around which i dont need as im never too far away from my house or somewhere that can lend me a spare to hobble home with ..

you may wanna have a search in the NA models section as i think that this topic may have been covered recently

hope you can get it sorted tho

I had same thing. Kept cleaning EGR valve which helped for a while but in the end replaced it which cured the problem. EGR valve is really easy to do on Astra G, I found a how-to by just doin a search on google. Also the performance improved with the new EGR valve.

Hmmm, my search might have been hampered by my thinking it's ERG and not EGR

Thanks for the link, it's just what I needed!

All i did was remove the EGR valve(you'll need a large torx bit), clean it with a wire brush and some carb cleaner and replace it. That sorted mine for a while but i needed to replace it eventually.
