    mapping

    hi all, am new to this and someone mentioned to me about mapping which gives better performance?? astravan mk 4 05 plate 17cdti can i get it done on this and a rough price. ta

    Hey les, you could check out this: http://www.astraownersclub.com/vb/sh...d.php?t=128981 / http://www.diesel-performance.co.uk/direct_sales.php and similar posts. I believe these work by modifying the data sent to an unmodified ecu, effectively changing the map.

    There's also: http://www.regal-shop.co.uk/acatalog/The_EDS_IPF.html, which supports the 1.7 cdti and allows you to change maps at home.

    Hopefully a deisel tuner will respond to this post, I really don't know much about them.

    But yes, mapping improves performance. A cars "map" controls everything from the drive by wire throttle response to how long to keep the fuel injectors open for, to when the spark plugs should fire (well - irrelevant on diesels there <_<). A lot of mods, ie larger intercoolers and the like won't show much effect until the map is updated to take these in to account, but you can normally improve on the stock map with no mods quite a bit - especially for turbo engines.
