Since fitting Cam - flickering voltage

    Hi

Ever since i've got my lumpy idle from the inlet cam my lights flicker at idle.... Thats dash, main beam etc etc....

Before you say it, its had the rev raised with the phase 3.5 plus a little more by Chris....

Question is, how the hell can I stop this from happening? What I don't get is its a new battery, its had the UDP removed but it still flickers...

What else can i do? I thought the alternator would be supplying more than enough voltage at idle with the revs raised etc but as the engine stutters the lights dim....

Put a load on the electrical system, lghts, heater blower, rearwindow de-mister, heated seats etc and recheck voltage.

Seems low to begin with, should be 14v + with the alternator running. As said though put load on it too and see if it drops further.

Maybe that’s just what it does with a lumpy idle?
Recently got my car back from 40k service, which included a cambelt change, and it had developed a lumpy idle which in turn led to the flickering lights you mention. In my case the idle was caused by the belt being one tooth out, got that fixed and flickering lights disappeared – no fault with the electrics.

.3V is a bit of voltage drop

But it wouldn't make a noticeable drop in light's etc

Put loads on and test it
