    Ford focus alternator belt squeak

    Hi guys

My Focus 1.6 has developed a squeak which sounds to be the alternator belt. Anyone know if this is serious or if there is a simple solution?

    Thanks

tighten the belt up on the alternator tensioner.
failing that have it replaced. how old is the belt / car?

the squeek will come when the belt starts to slip and/or its a really cold day.

a "quick" fix is to spray WD40 on the belt, will stop the squeek as its a water penatrator BUT will perish the belt eventually.

The belt was replaced about 6 months ago, car is a 51 plate.

I just sprayed some WD40 on but it started squeaking again after a few mins

you say the belt but might it be the water pump ?

    was that done ?

also might be a roller if the focus has them

Yes it does have a couple of rollers. I think best thing is if I take it to my local garage, it is such an annoying noise. Should have stuck to Vauxhall lol

Well WD40 won't help as thats a lubricant = makes things slippy

If you can see the alternator belt, push the belt down, directly in the middle, between the pulley off the engine and alternator and there should be about 1/4 inch play no more

If it's damp, put some talcum powder on it
