    1.7CDTI 100ps Noise

I have just bought a 54 plate 1.7CDTI with 49K on the clock.
It drives well and I get 54MPG but between 1500 and 2000RPM there is a loud resonance from the engine/exhaust?. This is more noticable in 4th and 5th when accelerating.

My old 1.6 petrol astra I would drive around in 5th ffrom 30mph up, but I seem to have to drive aroung in 3rd at 30mph and 4th at 50mph to keep the RPM above 2K.

Is this normal, if not what could it be?

I took it back to the dealer and they said this is normal.

Think I get what you have on my 2.0DTi, i think its fairly normal, and that diesels prefer sitting over 2000RPM

Could well just be the fact that it's a Diesel car - have you owned/driven them before?

Diesel engines don't rev as high as petrol engines generally so they grumble and gargle along rather than the 'purring' of a petrol engine.

Hope that helps.. if not, I know - I talk some utter crap at times

    Thanks for all the replies.

No I have never owned a diesel before, maybe its just my paranoia.

It drives a treat over 2000RPM so I guess its a case of adjusting my driving and dropping down a gear more often.
