yes it is unfortunatly, already replaced the standard engine once, it didn't like being driven hard, the bottom end started knockin, due to lack of oil pressure

welcome to AOC from another mk3 owner (up to 5 of them now, not counting the donor cars I had for a bit for my GLSRi LOL)

Just my opinion - I'd keep the original GSi fanblade alloys, so many are modified out of recognition, it is getting more important that at least a few people try to keep some original, at the very least keep hold of the fanblades to go with the car should you ever sell her again.

She looks like a lovely example, just make sure you thoroughly check your wheel arches (in particular the rear ones) and the filler cap area for ANY signs of rust and nip it in the bud immediately as once it gets a toe hold the rot can set in very rapidly, and can lead to you needing to weld in a new back quarter (readily available from vauxhall spares specialists, and seen by the dozen at the auto jumble tradestands at shows like Billing - which shows how in demand they are!) If you halt the bubbles in their tracks early and keep on top of it then you'll be fine.

Another nasty spot on the GSi's are under the side skirts - make sure you get them removed so you can clean up any rot that's starting there and weld up the sills as required before refitting the skirts. Unfortunately they are very good at holding moisture against your sills

Other common faults on the mk3 include heater control dials loosing their illumination (usually when you do things with the stereo - they're very temperamental about their centre console area being fiddled with and tend to go dark in a sulk LOL) The heater blower fan can also start to act up, not doing anything on settings 1 & 2 but blasting you on settings 3 & 4 still, but it's a fairly easy fix. Another bugbear is the reverse light may stop working, if it's not the bulb then it means that the switch in the gearbox needs replacing.

Anyway I hope you enjoy the club - wander over to your regional group forum too and make your self known on there, there are usually regular meets, evenings out (bowling, pub dinners), scenic drives, rolling road days, track days, european trips (like the nurburgring) and national shows like Performance Vauxhall Show, Billing VBOA rally and Trax amongst others, with some members also going to europe for international tuning and modified shows too.

Nice motor, I have become more fond of Mk3's like this one recently.

I agree with scrapheapchallenge also, I personally would keep the wheels. 'OEM' is a good route to go down imo
