use the dip stick at the front of the Block with the yellow Ring on it
keep the oil near the Top mark on the stick

The new jags and landy rovers have no dipsticks. They are electronically read from the dash board. Bit strange. But i spose if you own one, well who changes their own oil? (said in posh voice) lol

when i do oil checks at work...i turn the engine on for a few seconds then off.....check the oil, if needs topping up do it......then give it a chance to drop down to the sump then again check

I always check the oil level when cold, like its supposed to be done, as long as the oil is between the dipstick lines, then its ok, but always do it when its cold. though if you do top it up, make sure you leave it a good 5 minutes before checking the level again, as it sometimes takes a little while for the oil to filter down into the sump, i made that mistake on my car, but it wasn't overfull for long
