Exclamation Some car insurance advice from someone whos had one hell of a day

FOR GODS SAKE READ THE BLOODY SMALL PRINT ON YOUR INSURANCE POLICY!!!!

To cut a long story short, I though me and my new bargain Astra was insured... when in fact, we wasn't.

Then on the way to work this morning, looked in the rear view mirror to find a police volvo flashing me over. They told me the computer said I wasn't insured and most likely because my cars logbook hasn't come back yet. Luckily, I avoided losing my license because I co-operated, I was still a youth and I had no criminal record. So they just impounded my Astra instead.

£150 to get it back. £20 extra for each day it's sat in the impound.

I tell you what. I dont think I've ever been so choked up before seeing my Astra being towed away. Especially as I've only had it for 3 DAYS!

I'm not looking for sympathy, and yes, I know I was in the wrong I dont need people telling me I deserved it and I know I got off lucky.

I'm just warning everybody else about how bloody cunning these computers are. Trust me, it told me more about my car on that computer screen than I thought I'd ever know about it.

it doesnt matter if your log book has come back, if you have insured the car and its not on the database you need to get on to your insurance company to get it sorted. doesnt matter whos name the car is in as you can insure any car

Thats right, the insurance database takes like 8 days I think to update. They could of rang your insurance provider to confirm your insurance. Sounds like they were a little too hasty to me.

Errr not strictly true.. Most insurers will insist on you having an "insurable interest" in the vehicle. That being you are the owner. If you were the owner and have the new keepers part of the V5 then you are fine, but certainly not as clear cut as the above.
