    1.7 Cdti

After my previous thread about the 2.0 DTI which i have passed up on as teh stealers were living up to there rep i have found another car i am interested in.

This time its a mk5 astra 1.7 cdti 100bhp model. The ti is in red on the badge which i think means its the 100bhp over the 80bhp model is it not???

Just wondered what these engines are like compaired to the 1.9 engines, i know they aint as powerfull but are they as reliable etc as you dont see as many of them about compaired to the 1.9

Any commen faults to look out for on these also? I dont know alot about these at all im afraid so sorry for all the questions,

    cheers kev

i've had the 1.7 cdti for bout 18 months now and overall the engine is pretty sweet.

i've never had any engine management lights or major mechanical faults.....i think the only thing i've replaced is the engine mount (small job).

so long as you service it correctly and not thrash it about....its very reliable winter or summer!

The 1.7 is probably more reliable than the 1.9 - no swirl flaps to break, and not as many EGR issues. Also no dual mass flywheel to fail.
