    thoughts on this mk4??

I've found a tidy mk4 on ebay, turns out its not far down the road and in a round-about way I know the owners... so, I'm quite keen on it

only thing that possibly puts me off is the mileage, being 130000. its been regularly serviced, and had the belt/tensioners/water pump etc done at approx 120k, but in general what is the 1.8 like for coping with high mileage? realistically how much life is going to be left in this, provided of course I continue to look after it?

i know of a 1.6 astra taxi that has 190,000 miles and still going strong.

it all depends how its been looked after if its been serviced and looked after i say go for it...

All depends on the individual car, really, link to the add and more details would be helpful but generally 130k isnt anything to get worried about.

My 1.8 SRi has over 160,000 on the clock, engine is due to being replaced as its not fast enough for me, but the current engine is amazing to say the least, ive known the car pretty much since brand new, has been well looked after and cared for and it goes to show, the guys when i took it for its MOT couldn't believe how many miles it had done.

No smoke, no knocks no rattles, pulls well through out the rev range as it did when new.

Best of all, its only ever had minimal work done to it, ie oil changes, filter changes etc, been a really solid reliable car / engine.

have spoken to them about it, it seems genuine enough, am hoping to find time to go look at it this weekend.

Looks like an honest enough car, the 10months MOT certainly makes it attractive just really depends on how high the auction goes. At the age of car mileage becomes less and less important rather than overall condition.
If its local enough its worth going to have a look at it in person, pictures hide a multitude of sins.

Looks pretty good, its got air conditioning too which is good as it wasn't standard at that age. My car is about the same age and engine but i only have 90k on it, owned my car for two years and only problem i had was my ECU going faulty, chances are the arches are going to be very rusty like mine. Also my car isnt the smoothest when slowing down so could be worth testing this out.

I think that kind of mileage is high..but if your getting it for a bargain price and it has full service history and everything appears to be sound then i would take the risk if you really like it!
