    Bumper Removal?

Bought a set of Angel eyes and understand you need to drop the bumper, however the heads of the bolts in the wheel well are nackered and the screw bit doesnt fit it anymore.

Any ideas on how to get the bolts out? Or would it best be took to a garage and have them do it.

    Cheers

This is an oh so common problem on the mighty mk4. The way i do it is drill the heads off the bolts, then the arch liner can be moved out of the way. Then using a stud extractor, ( or good grips) grab the shank on the remaining part of the bolt and unscrew it.

The bolt goes through the arch liner, the bumper attachment ring, and then into a retainer. When replacing the bolts, i would also replace the retainer as this suffers from corrosion just as the bolt head does. It just slides out,( a little force may be required) pushing it towards the engine bay.

Sounds like a plan! What size bit do you use to drill off the head?

Hmmmm? Now your askin! I can't remember what size i used (just did it to another astra at the weekend too!!) At a guess i think it was a 3.2mm but i can't be certain so please don't quote me on it. Im sure it will become obvious to you when you have a look at the head and offer different bits up to it.
