    AV experts opinion needed

    watching blu gays today and offers me choice of DD 5.1 or 5.1 uncompressed.
    which is the better sound qaulity, i would have thought uncompressed, but i aint got a clue, both sound pretty dam gd on me system

    Think of it like an .mp3 file.

    With .mp3 files, the audio is compressed and parts of the audio such as very low and very high notes go missing and other bits that aren't important are missing too.

    It "sounds" like the original until you hear the original in which case the .mp3 compressed version is evidently lacking in clarity.

    Same happens when you compress a .bmp image to a .jpg ... the quality is reduced to save file size.

    DVD's had approx 1/5th of the capacity of a Blu-Ray therefore uncompressed audio took up too much space to fit it on along with the movie itself.
