    Oil - Problem!

    Hi all,

Had a little road trip today (covered 500miles), and when i got near home a short while ago, the car started "tapping". Its a 1800 coupe.

I opened the bonnet, and the engine appeared very hot (which was obvious i had just driven miles and miles).. Pulled the dip stick out, and there was no oil..!!...

I done a full oil change 3 weeks ago, and check the oil weekly, and checked it yesterday night and it was full..

No warning light came on the dash, and there are no leaks anywhere..

Ive topped the oil up, and the ticking remains..

Have i broken the engine????? - And what causes all the oil to suddently disapear???

    Help me please....

    Thanks
    Lushy

of course there will be no oil..its is on engine parts, inner walls etc..
oil level will be correct (by dipstick) only after 15 min of engine stop..and most of oil will be at bottom of engine.if to low level, oil level indicator ligh will come on..an even if you ignore this, after some time oil pressure ligh also will come on
what concerns hot engine..mine cool down while cruising down the highway.
