Driveshaft and Clutch have gone... some Q's?

    Hey guys and girls,

I aint been on here in a while due to detachments, postings and what ever else but have been doing a lot of miles in the GSi.

Anyway, i started to get a really bad shuddering from the passenger side front which got progessively worse. Upon closer inspection, the CV rubber have split so i took it into my local garage so they could have a look. I just got a phone call saying my Driveshaft has gone and that my clutch is slipping so might as well get that done too. The bloke at the garage said "as its lowered so much, i will need an uprated DS to cope with the drop".

Few Q's for you all then... I have been quoted £172+vat for DS and £266+vat for clutch for supplying, are these good prices?

If the clutch has gone, what do i need? as i was looking at gettin Courtenays uprated fast road clutch but do i need the slave cylinder?

I'm a complete biff when it comes to this stuff so if anyone can tell me what i need and where to get it all from, i would be much appreciated! I know this is going to cost me but i need to get it sorted.

    cheers

    Butch

No seeing why it would need an uprated driveshaft then in all honesty.
Id pm the likes of Gman or Dannysport they are bound to have or be able to get a second hand driveshaft for a Z20LET.

Clutch - I ran a Courtenay clutch in my 888 van never had a problem with it. It is basically a C20LET turbo item though from memory, but unless your planning to up the power then thats not really going to be a problem.

Has the driveshaft broken or is it just mullered at the CV joint end where its ran dry with the split boot?

Personally I would do the slave cylinder and clutch release bearing whilst the box is off, they are not expensive and can save hassle later on.

Sounds like its just a case of the CV joint running dry due to the split boot and it has subsequently mulllered itself. Nothing really to do with the car being lowered as such. There will be more stress on joint etc. with a lowered car but Id put this down to your split boot and nothing else.

You could get away with it but Id spend the extra on the other 2 items, better safe than sorry.
