    Speed camera help

    Hi,

I was driving very early this morning, about 3am and didnt even notice a speed camera on the other side of the road. It flashed me twice as i went past. Before anybody states i know i shouldnt have been speeding.

Just wondering if cameras facing you but are on the other side of the road catch you? It looked like a Gatso and there were road markings on my roadside. The camera itself was not positioned to my side of the road.

Again, i accept i was breaking the limit which i genuinely thought to be 10mph more than what it actually was.

    Thanks

I always believed that the camera has to be on your side of the road and has to catch you from behind for it to be legit??

iirc some take a front on photo and some from the rear,

the front ones are infrared and dont have a flash though?

If it was a rear facing gatso on the other side of the road then you're fine.

See there was a taxi on the oncoming lane that past when i did but as i said i didnt realise it was 10mph less than i was going so i reckon it was me who set it off.

yes, u are fine. speeding on the opposite side of the road can sometimes set them off but you will not get done. Whilst we're on this subject has anyone encountered the forward facing cameras that have just one thick line all the way across the lane, not a load of small lines? i've only ever seen one, on a dual carraigeway. Do they take an average speed up to the line or just measure ur speed on the actual line itself?

it takes the speed as you go over the line on the forward facing ones.

Some times the rear ones go off because the capacitor that holds the flash needs to recharge so it flashes (therefore not damaging the camera buy holding the charge all the time) or so I was led to believe.

Prettty sure capacitors don't get damaged by holding a charge for too long.
