    air box filter

i'm eventually going to de-restrict my air box. What performance air filter do you recommend? I've only ever thought of k&n. Are there any better ones available.

I am not saying these are no good but in my opinion i would stick to the standard paper one and replace more often, just my opinion. The air box mod does make a bit of difference but after a while you get used to it, makes you feel like going back to find out how it was before.

    Well whats the point

They lose their filtration properties with every wash/clean, so more dust and stuff gets into the engine = not healthy

    Paper one would suffice

This has been discussed many times, a performance filter is much better than a paper one, yes it does loose filtration properties with every clean but it would takes 100s of washes for it to even make a small difference. A performance filter is better than a paper one and that is fact.

with a k and n air filter it is only the oil that stops the dirt going into the engine, when you wash the filter and when it is dry the filter goes white if you use the filter in this condition it lets the dirt into the engine,
so you have to use a air filter oil on the k and n

Not meaning to argue the toss

The proof is that anyone who has actually compared the two will have noticed a difference. There are also people who have used a performance filter since new and never had any problems related to a performance filter loosing its filtering properties.

Also a good point Keif brought up here-
