    over revving

i have an old Astra, a couple of days ago the water pump went causing the cam belt to snap a friend has replaced the belt, retimed the car etc. now it runs but revs the nuts off the engine even on tick over.

I know sweet fa about cars and wonered if any one has any ideas before i pay the local garage a fortune.

    cheers Dave

its e ECOTEC 1.6 my mate was going to take the head off, he started to strip it but then for some reason decided to put it back together.it seems to run ok apart from it revs like heck and when driving you have to keep your foot on the brake to slow it down

if anyone has any ideas i would be grateful. i'm guessing my mate has either broken summit or put some pipes on wrong but dont have a clue where to start looking. i bought haynes manual earlier but that hasn't helped, but at least i know where to put water in now,,, lol
