Car Serviced at Dealers on Thursday

well that time of year has come again when the car was due its annual service at the dealers

now i knew i was expecting a stupidly over priced bill from them but £170.64 including VAT i thought was taking the piss. anyway payed them and took my key and off i went.

got in my car to be encounted by a 1 litre bottle of 0w40 oil. is this a new thing vauxhall are doing now to explain their stupidly high prices they charge or has it been the norm with vauxhall for a a 2nd annual service?????

for those who service their own cars, what oils do you reccommend to use or what does everyone use on their own pride and joys??????

my car is an Astra H 1.8 SRi 2006 plate (56)

You service your car every 8 weeks?

Oil takes like 20-30k miles to actually "go off"

Depends on what mileage you do every week, how soon you change the oil.
Mine gets new oil & a filter every 5000 miles.
I've found running it too long between changes is a false economy, regular oil changes result is less engine wear & less major repair costs when the mileage starts to grow on the car.
I use castrol Magnatec in mine, handy as my local garage is a castrol stockist.

lol Evos etc and performance cars are like 3500 - 5000 "recommended by dealer" and thatís low.

Just throwing your money away imo, whatís a service, £30 + a £20 bottle of oil? That would be over £100 a year just on that if you did it your self and did average mileage.

    It's an Astra not a R8.

It's still an engine and should be looked after well.

I change my oil every 2 months, and as Danny said, on trade club it's dirt cheap. I pay £11.11 for 5 litres of oil and a filter
