    Superchips

I was thinking about going to superchips in cardiff and getting one fitted.
but someone in work with me said that they mess up the ecu after a few years. is this true? has anyone had trouble with their chip, or are they ok to use?

it often helps if u let us know what engine model and year you have

saves everyone trawling through all ur previous posts looking for the answer

generally speaking chips are usually reserved for older cars - more modern cars benefit from an ECU remap

Depending on engine then u can expect anything from 10-100bhp+ from a remap (depending of course on what extra parts u have fitted)

The person in your work clearly knows **** all tbh.
What you need to weigh up is that Superchips only list a gain of 6bhp which costs £299. Not worth bothering about imo.

i know i'm not goin to get massive gains from my 1.6 but i just want to make it a little bit quicker. When i can afford it i'll b gettin an exhaust fitted nd changing the air filter. So a chip or re-map would probably be next in line.

There are better things to spend your money on with a 1.6 that will give better gains.
Likes of a Dbilas flowtec inlet manifold, decent exhaust, Vectra C air intake, de-restricted airbox and a decent panel filter. Will be a bit more expensive than just a Superchip but the gains will be far far better, the inlet manifold is the 1.4/1.6;s real down fall as they are very restrictive.

For a remap you are way better off doing the mods first, then the remap will be able to set your engine up to make the most of them - remap first and your mods will not see their full potential.

I'd personally go for a remap any day over a 'chip' type setup - the remap can be customised to your car and your mods whereas a chip is generic.

Anyhow, for the £300 of a SuperChip you'd get a decent catback exhaust from eBay, a K&N Panel filter (or similar), a vectra intake pipe...and have some change for some lowering springs. You'd perhaps get more from that than a chip!

Sitting down? £900 or so...seriously good but seriously expensive, my thoughts are catback from eBay (Cybox or GT3), panel filter and Vectra intake pipe coupled with derestricted airbox - without these the inlet manifold is wasted a bit anyhow

ok... doubt i'll be getting one in a hurry then. i think i'll stick to the exhaust and airbox stuff for the time being.
