    Cold Engines...

    Morning all

I've got a 1.4 16v astra mk4, and have noticed how long it takes for the temperature gauge to get up to its optimum temperature ( 90 )

But it worries me a bit, I mean I did a 30 mile trip the other day, and just before I got to my destination the needle just started to creep up

Anyone else had this at all? Or are 1.4 16v's just good at keeping cold

Could it not affect the MPG in respect that the coolant temp sensor sees the engine as cold for ages and hence puts more fuel in the engine? My wife's Vectra had the coolant temp sensor fail and it was really drinking the petrol - replaced sensor and voila, significantly more MPG.
