    noisey diesel

    I have an 03 plate 2.0 dti sxi and when i start the car up all is quiet but when i start to pull away ( More Revs ) the noise from the engine gets louder

    Some one has told me it is diesel ping

    Anyone any ideas ?

    Mines like that, as far as I know its just the engine is far from refined. It also sounds worse inside the car than it does outside I find

    They're knockier when cold, the ECU does a different injection pattern to aid heating.

    I had the same problem. New glow plugs sorted it. I can only think one or two werent working as they should. Been told glow plugs dont show up on EML! I dont know but new ones certainly made it quiet.

    The time the glow plugs stay on depends how cold the engine is, the two glow plugs that were working were helping with fuel combustion, the other two cylinders wern't getting the same combustion help throwing the engine out of ballance causing knock until the overall engine temp picked up.

    Diesel works on compression ignition glow plugs are there to aid cold starting thats all. They dont even come on if the air temperature is above 4 degrees C
