looking at a mk4 astra gsi turbo??!!

hi, i am new to the forum and currently have a 106 gti and i love it but i feel its time for a change! i have always had a soft spot for the mk4 astra gsi turbo and i have read the reviews and they seem spot on! its either a gsi or type-r??!

what are the gsi's like on fuel?
    handling?
    reliable?
expensive to run etc thanks mike

i owned a 106 gti a couple of years ago! loved the engine! so revabble

fuel - i average around 30 mpg, travel mainly on a roads and motorways to and from work

handling - good but needs lowering really, i find standard suspension is too soft for my liking, esp is there to save you though

mine has been reliable so far, turbos are the main concern around 50-70k miles or so

main costs are tyres, brakes, and turbo when it goes

    great fun though!

nicer to drive than the gti though as in the clutch is loads lighter, and brakes more responsive, much better built quality also

I would rather have the GSI, but you are on a astra forum

But I prefer the power delivery over the turbo rather than the vetec (both passenger rides though)

Handling on the astra is great, well the coupe can certianly keep up with a lot on the road.

In the experince i've had with the 2.2 the only problems I have had is the manifold blown and the two rear springs snapped. Both common problems on the coup and all fixed for under £100.

I know the GSI is different but I would imagine simliar issues.

Fuel is meant to be ok, unless you have a lead right foot

Try getting a test drive in one and in a type R see which you prefer more bud.

You may find the suspension fine, altough agreed, the coupe shares simliar suspension and could do with tightening up.
