Bit Cofused As To What Engine I Have?

    Well lads,

I have a 00 1.8 Astra Coupe..Ive been searching here and found that the z18xe is said to have an all silver engine cover

    - Ive silver and black engine cover (Black up by the throttle).
    - It has a manicat
    - It has a fly by wire throttle

Can any of ye tell me what it is i have?..I was sure it was a z18xe until i read the post about the engine cover colours

    Thanks

If its got an electronic throttle, ie no throttle cable and its a 1.8 it will be the z18xe.

if it has fly by wire throttle then has to be the Z18XE, but two tone cover and fact its a 2000 should mean X18XE1,

this may seem simple but on the left of the engine (on the cambelt cover) it should have a sticker with a barcode, the wording under it will start Z18XE... or X18XE1... that will be the easiest way of telling, or look in the service book and it should say on the 2nd page,

    sticker can fall off....

therefore a few easier pointers to determine

X18XE1 will have cast manifold then a flange fitting, a front pipe featuring a cat and a flexi join...... it will also have midi blade fuses in the drivers fuse box

Z18XE will have similar manifold as above but will also have the cat located on the manifold itself (rubby round cylinder) the flange will be located further downwards and the front pipe will be more simpler, with only a flexi pipe located on it.... the drivers fuse box contains mini blade fuses.

This is best way of determining.

and YES early 1.8 coupes did feature the X18XE1 engine and being on the changeover year it could be either.

BUT seeing as u say it has a mani cat and fly by wire then its certainly pointing towards the Z18XE - maybe just with a different cover

Thanks for that, it matches the description of the z18 anyway bar the cover colour...Opel possibly didn't use the all silver cover as found in the Vauxhall z18xe.
