That could have been a winner...

Noticed a funny knocking sound coming from the front of Evil Bus this week, plus the steering occasionally felt a bit vague. So with the MOT due up in a few weeks, I thought I should investigate...

Turns out the top nut on the offside strut was loose... very loose! I never bothered rechecking them post-lowering after it had settled. The knocking was the top cap wobbling & bouncing around on the shaft.

Knocking has now ceased and the bus handles a lot nicer now the strut isn't wobbling about in it's orifice when I go round corners

What daft mechanical faux pas have you done which potentially could have had a sticky ending??

Left a bottom pulley loose on an engine rebuild! was running it and it was rattling quite bad, was looking about in the engine bay while it was running to find the problem, could have been nasty would have been another engine rebuild before the first one was complete!

After spraying the calipers, i put the wheels on, bolts only hand tight, dropped it down with all intentions of doing them up and forgot. Went for a drive and after 10 mins realised and shit myself! Lucky the car was cold so i never booted it! LOL

I know a friend who topped up the oil on his old fiat tipo but put the oil into the coolant instead instead of fixing it he scrapped the car and has never tried to do anything mechanical since

How about (on my Nova) tieing the backbox on with plastic string when it came loose, then for the string to melt and the backbox falls off in the town centre, never to be found again?
