Whats the engine type and mileage mate?

Have you checked the underside of the oil filler cap for a mayonnaise-like substance?

Whats the temp guage saying? Is it using any water?

Any adverse findings here could flag the problem and possibly what is happening to your oil.

    Hope this may help

The 1.6 engine has a reputation of using oil.
As long as it's below 1 litre/1000 miles it's considered fairly normal for this engine.

    As SQman says.

You need to get into a routine of checking your oil (which every should do anyway)
