Todays trial - Comma Rain Clear Gel

Ok, I got some of this ordered (£4.99 + p&p) to try out:

    http://www.properautocare.com/raclrare.html

Supposedly lasts a month or so between coats so time will tell. Developed by the same person who patented RainX (which apparently you can make yourself if you do some Google-ing!), it is said to fill the tiny pores (with special nano stuff!) in the glass rather than just put a water repellent coating over the top of the glass.

Went on very very easily - one coat, then second coat, polish off.

I used the 'nano' cloth it came with to apply it, then a (courtesy of GeordieBandit!) microfibre cloth to polish it off - absolute doddle to apply, shined up very well with none of the haze that RainX seems to leave until it's gotten wet. Certainly prefer applying this to RainX. Hardly needed any of the tube for each coat, it spreads very easily.

No rain yet, but I'll report back once it has!

Bye bye VXR Castle Combe Edition - because it's done more laps of Castle Combe than most Bergs have of the Ring

Actually, I figure like this - the day I find a repellent I like, the day we get some good weather! Surprise - today is nice and sunny!

All I tried was the washer jets this morning, but that's not exactly a fair or useful test - the water did bead very very tightly though...

All I am after is a product that is is cheap and lasts a reasonable length of time. AquaPel lasted ages, but didn't feel it was as effective as RainX, but RainX lasts about a week for me.

But hey, rain repellent is my thing, wax is others

    Actually yes, it rained today

I am obviously going by my own opinion, but I feel the water beads tighter with Comma and does blow off the windscreen faster too, can't say it's any better or worse at lower speeds, it seems to work best from 40-45mph onwards and isn't noticeably better than RainX etc at lower speeds. I do find it smears less but that is probably as much down to me putting new wipers on at almost the same time!

Prefer this to RainX, if nothing else it is way way nicer to apply and polishes off much better. Lastability for me seems better than RainX too.

cool. i may have to try some.

i have never used it on the windscreen due to the storys of it smearing when using wipers.
