Depends on how much you like the car. My hatchback is a 2003, 39,000 miles and have just had the 5th service and a mot.

Failed the mot on a ball joint and advised steering rack had a leak, not a major one as they couldnt see where it was leaking. I thought about selling up but i love the car and dont want to sell.

I was quoted £140 all in for a balljoint which is stupid, i managed to get the ball joint for £12 and fitted for £20. Just getting costs on the rack at the moment.

Are you good with cars, can you do any of the work yourself? I do my own serviceing which saves money, maybe only a small amount but it adds up. Do you know any one that coudl help you out with some of the work?

Never be affraid to shop around, the problem i found is with costs of electric, rates etc going up gargaes are putting the labour rates up.

Hope you understand what im trying to say.

Depends how much you value it at the end of the day.
And if you can justify spending the money on it.
My cars a '98 and it's on 85000, and i havn't really had any problems with it *touchwood*
Don't just pass it on because it needs some work doing, at the end of the day every car will need work doing, new and old.

127,000 since new, spent a fair bit recently, probably towards £1500 by the time current bills are paid (though that includes a set of tyres, MOT costs and recent-ish full service and cambelt kit), but it's still going well (fingers crossed).
