    coupe cat!!!!!!!!!!

i am thinking about cuting my cat converter out and just welding a pipe in its place on my 1.8 16valve coupe (2004) i was wondering if anyone else had done this? and if it made any performance difference? and still run ok?

seeing as it will be illegal (well technically not but the only feasible way of passing an emmisions test is with a cat) then youll probs find most ppl have not done so.

Im guessing you're not that familiar with the engine either as on your engine (Z18XE) the cat is built into the manifold so its not gonna be as easy as it would be on earlier models.

Your best legal move would be to fit a cast manifold (or stainless aftermarket/custom) from an earlier X18XE1 engine, then an off the shelf sports cat front pipe to mate the manifold with the cat back etc... (weld a threaded boss after the cat to locate ur rear lambda sensor and ur sorted)

Ive even got a front pipe sports cat here that u could have for less than half the price brand new (only had 6mths use) would need a new flange to fit a 1.8 manifold but say u could source an earlier manifold then you could have a sports cat for less than 200 notes.....

or just get an off the shelf sports cat for about 800 notes

OR decat ur current one and to hell with the mot and pollution caused

youll no doubt have to hack ur manifold apart to get to the cat itself - try it n see what happens

you may trip the emissions light tho too

good luck with any roadside emissions testing that aint as rare as it sounds
