    Fed up mechanic

Any other mechanics out there annoyed with the bad press that garages get about so called 'rip off' prices that are charged by main dealers?

Main dealers do charge rip off prices end of. Local garages and small businesses charge more focused prices so that they get the business, it's the only way they will survive. The only way main dealers get away with their labour charges (we all know that that is what they are overcharging on) is because they know they are the local main dealer and will get more than enough business because stoopid joe public who knows nothing about cars will always go back to the main dealer and just book it in. They also have to charge those prices to pay all the yts wannabe mechanics (or are they called technicians now) to sit around buggering up your car whilst they charge you for it.

    Its not just large places,

Garages seem to charge what the book says and do it quicker and pocket the change.

I have worked at garages and book times (That the customer gets charged) are allways way over.
The truth is always the truth even if you haven't realised it yet...

at the end of the day if the customer is happy with the price and says fix it then i dont see a problem.

i do feel some people feel they need to go to the main dealer in the first 3 years to keep up the warrenty which is not true.

Clearly you have little understanding off how a main dealer operates or where labour charges come from.
