    car is fubar

really dont know whats wrong with it. my mate had a look 2 months ago when it first broke down and said it might be the coil pack, replaced that, same problem, next he got someone else to have a look and they plugged it into another computer and said it was the speed / distance transmitted which is just above the gear box, replaced that. nothing has changed if anythign its worse becasue before i could start the engine up now it wont even do that! any ideas peeps?

    What engine is it?

Could be all manner of things, basically if its cranking and not starting you're either not getting fuel or spark.

Sounds like they replaced the crank position sensor, could there be a loose plug somewhere else? Have you modified the car in any way recently?

Could be allsorts - for me recently with the same issue it was a broken fuel pump, but a few things can cause the same symptoms.

was the ecu reset after these things were replaced? alot of cars hold the memory of the problem and dont recognise its been fixed if the ecu hasnt been reset (usually disconnect battery for over 30 mins resets the ecu on some cars)

    the symptoms are:
started with cutting out and losing power. no juddering just total loss of revs follwed by the car dying. now ive left it 2 months car ticks over fine and now doesnt start at all.
syptoms arose when i was driving home from the gym like i normaly do on a dry warm day at half 6 at 30mph.
the onlt thing i had done before the problem arose was i blanked off the egr valve, other than that nothing. i was told this wouldnt have affected it. reason for changing egr valve, same problem as most astra drivers, high revs when starting up then kangaroo hopping when accelaratin or trying to keep low speeds.

    engine is x14xe.

    Any lights on the dash?

Remove the blanking plate and clean out the EGR valve using carb cleaner and refit using a new Vauxhall gasket. Try and refire her see what happens.

Egr wouldnt do all that. Sounds like a dying crank sensor or ecu. Is the battery fully charged?
