    Alternator check help

How can I check if my alternator is shot. Astra Mk4 1.6 8V T reg. The battery is not holding it's charge, but don't want to replace the alternator if it's not needed, maybe just the belt? Am going to get the battery checked tomorrow, just to make sure. Any advice/suggestions are welcome. Thanks alot.

check the fuses, my mates hyundai accent lol hyundai accent.... sigh...the battery kept going dead checked the fuses before he started buying anything and found the 100amp alternator fuse was blown. saved him 160quid for a new alternator.

worth a shot checking to see if thats the problem.

if not the get a amp meter, measure how many amps are running through it when the engine is off, then do it agian when the engine is on, if it goes up then its not the alternator.. if it doesnt change then the battery isnt being charged and the alternator is the fault. correct me someone if im wrong but from what ive seen people doing in the past this is the way to check?
