    MOT's tyres and wheels

    Evening all

Got a query regarding tyres and wheels regards to MOT's

My tyres up front will need replacing soon, have about 2mm of tread on them on the inside, had advisories on them last MOT but it still failed on other things, but I maybe getting paranoid by thinking they will fail it on the tyres next time around just to get money out of me, and I can't afford it having spent over £300 already on fixing the car!

Am I right in thinking its legal to drive a car with 2 wheels and tyres smaller than each other as long as they're on the same axle?

Two would be 185/70R14 and the other 195/45R16

some cars have 19's on the back at 18's up front as std
2mm will be fine as you only need 1.6mm for a mot but any less an its 3 points

I thought the same Danny as I think Honda NSX's do as standard

I'll have to borrow a tread depth indicator from work tomorrow to see how much tread I've got exactly

it would also be ok to have the smaller wheels at the back.

Just replace the tyres, they're the only things keeping you in contact with the road, no point skimping on a few millimeters is there really. Your stopping distances are already greatly reduced by them being that low!

As has been said though, as long as they're on the same axel should be fine.
