    Vacuum solenoids

My late 2002 2.0 DTI Astra has got three vacuum solenoids under the bonnet.

One of the pair that control the EGR and changeover valve has got what looks like a one-way valve on a rubber elbow attached to the bottom. The other hasn't and the one that I assume works the wastegate I can't remember.
Is there supposed to be one on each or is only one right?

The inlet manifold switchover solinoid valve is the farthest one at the front of the engine bay.
The one that controls the EGR recurculation valve is the one to the rear of the above (nearest the water filler bottle).
The turbocharger wastegate solinoid valve is the one at the rear righthand corner of the engine compartment.

The little pipe with the little valve on it is normal too.

Thanks, but are they all supposed to have one?

I can't remember which now, and it's dark, but only one of the two front ones has the valve.

The inlet manifold switchover solenoid hadn't got a valve on it but it has now.

I can hear a buzzing from the EGR solenoid so I wonder if that's what's causing my problems.

I found a Vectra with a similar engine in a local scrapyard last week and liberated the three solenoids just in case. I'm pretty sure the part number is what's listed in the Astra G parts list, (they're in the garage and I'm not), but they're definitely not the same as I've got fitted.

    They're 9128022 and mine are 09158200

    Will they work?

Strangely, Googling my part number with the original spacing brings up 9 relevant results, one in Swedish and the rest in Polish.

The Swedish page shows both part numbers with their reference, the only difference being a T or a V at the end. I'm going to assume it's just different manufacturers and fit one anyway.

My solinoid buzzes from time to time and does not cause any adverse affects. I am interested to know why you are contenplating changing some or all of these solinoid valves, what symptoms are you experiencing?

Intermittent EML, always when cold and erratically afterwards, very lethargic acceleration no load (just revving standing still), won't rev past 3,500 or so, EML and no turbo as soon as I try to pull away.

EGR solenoid buzzes continuously, not just occasionally. I don't know anything about them but I can't believe that's right.

EML fault codes are Air Flow Meter, which I've changed, and EGR valve.

    Just call me suspicious...

No, that wasn't it. The other solenoids aren't quite identical, the inlet and outlet pipes are slightly smaller. I even tried swapping the connections and pipes around on the original ones. That confirms the EGR solenoid buzzes because it wants to, not from another cause, as it still did it then.

I even tried putting the original MAF back and it's no different.

3,500 revs to be going on with isn't necessarily a problem, as in day to day use I doubt I'd use much more anyway and I could keep working on it, but the lack of power as soon as I apply load is. Also, I guess the MOT man will probably not think it's enough to test it.

    Any geniuses out there?
