    F17 Gearbox

    does anyone know, if any, which diesel engine uses the f17 box? thanks

    the F17 box is present in the 1.7CDTi engine the 70 bhp version

    the F23 box is present in the 1.7CDTi engine the 100 bhp version

    1.7 (80 bhp) - Z17DTL
    1.7 (100 bhp) - Z17DTH

    thanks alot for the info - would they have the same gear ratio as the ones used in petrol engines ie. 1.8,1.6 16v ?

    nope,

    coz they are diesels they have completely different ratios.

    cool so i can swop some around for ex take out the 4th and 5th and stick'em into my gearbox to gain some top end ; would that work?

    tbh i don't think you can just replace individual gears as they are all interlinked and attached

    if you wanted to get top end i'd probs see about gettin a 6 gear box if possible, but tbh you wont get much taking into account its only the 70bhp version.

    what is your plans anyway?

    i have a 1.8 sport which has a close ratio gearbox , if i go for a 6speed box have to change the drive shafts and hubs as well , and not sure if i can make it fit the bell being different as well; a diesel box will have a higher gear ratio as both being f17 the sincrons may match looking to achive something like 2.5k rpm at 70mph comparing with the existing 3.3k rpm at 70mph

    The diff ratio is different too.
    2007 Metro Blue 5 door Mk5 Elite 1.7CDTI
    6th Vauxhall (4th Astra) in 10 years...plus a couple of other sheds...
