    Starting intermitent

Hi guys, I'm new here and need some serious help!

I have an astra 1.6i. Sometimes it doesn't start and sometimes it does, when it gets going it purrs beautifully so it must be an initial starting issue.

The starter motor is turning fine, there's fuel in the tank, the plugs are new and i've just replaced the ignition coil.

The car isn't fitted with an immobiliser so it cant be that.

Anyone got any ideas? Could it be the fuel pump?

All I know is that mine is in the garage now with the same issue but mine won't start at all. Garage suggest crankshaft position sensor which wojuld cut the fuel system off until it was fixed...you need your engine error codes read as that might tell you what is at fault (Tech2).

no idea if youve done this yet but if not then it should be on top of the inlet manifold

u may have to remove some air intake plastics from on top to gain access

once removed it will probably be held on with 2 small screws (maybe Torx) and an electrical connector it should look like this

clean it with carb cleaner or better still just remove it - i may have a spare knocking about if u need it

idle stepper motor will not affect starting. You get the tc for that with air leaks into the inlet manifold. When it is cranking and will not start, do you have fuel being supplied to the engine? And do you have spark?
