Porter Cable deal, is this a good deal people ??

Hi all, I have been toying with the idea of getting a polisher and the general opinion seems to be don't bother with the £29.99 toys, get a real one.

So on looking around ebay and the like, I came across this deal, only it seems to say that the 7424 is better than the UDM which from what I have read it appears to be the other way around, the UDM came after the 7424 or have I got it wrong, lol.

    The item is here, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Porter-Cable-7...3911.m14.l1318

Can anyone say if its a good unit etc.

    Thanks in advance

looks like a good deal, you will need a transformer as well to use it, as it runs on 120v (USA)

Lee, it seems to say he will include a 110V transformer and adaptor cable to save cutting the plug on the polisher for warranty for £180 inc shipping, its £20 for the cable from him, I can get a new 110V transformer from screwfix for £50 or I expect my mate will have one if needed.

What do you think about the 7424 being better than the UDM ?

    Thanks

Would I better getting the Megs G220 or does that have reliability issues ?

The big advantage of the G220 is that it's 240v, the big downside is that there's still some teething issues that they're ironing out.

That one's the Porter Cable 7424. Yes it came before th UDM, but they got it right first time, whereas the UDM has now fizzled out of the detailing scene almost due to it being unreliable. When my UDM broke, it would only work if you grabbed the main body with one hand, grab the handle with the other, and twist. But as soon as you let go it stopped again!!

That's a good kit for the PC though

Gaz chap, if money is not any issue which polisher would you go for ?

I am trying to decide which one to opt for, Makita Megs, PC etc etc

I may still take you up on your offer for the detail yet, maybe get some tips aswell, lol.

Money no object, then the best kit for a beginner would be that PC one in your ebay link.

Don't go for a makita as they're very hard to work with as it's a rotary. Get practice with a Random Orbital before going for a rotary.
