I earlier reported that the baffles in my Silencer had gone. The thought of getting a new exhaust system when the current one is so quiet led me to an almost sleepless night(lights out at 23:00, asleep at 01:00).
So come the crack of dawn this morning before work I jacked up the car and removed the silencer. On removing the silencer I noticed the fixing bolts to the centre section were a bit loose.
I shook the silencer quite hard and banged it gently on a carpeted floor. Absolutely no rattles.
So I put it back together tightening all the nuts and low and behold the rattle is gone. The exhaust is very quiet and I am a happy bunny
Finally I can rev the car above 3k without a horrible rattle noise. Drive it around 1st gear and there is nothing.
So I am driving and as the car temperature is getting hotter I can here the noise again very slightly.
Now one thing I thought is exhaust expansion, I no longer have a flexible joint as it has been replaced by a lexmaul downipe from the cat.
Could this be causing the issue and allowing the joint to come free as there is not enough room to expand when hot?
How can I fix it if it is?
