My first breakdown and AA callout!

Pah, 126,000 miles and my first breakdown! Got in the car after work tonight, turned the key, engine started then immediately died. Car would then turn over but not actually start.

Plenty of petrol, AA man said there was no power to the fuel pump, but relays/fuses were fine. Towed to my normal garage and initial suggestion was camshaft position sensor (or could have been crankshaft but was talking to my 3yr old about lasagne at the same time!) as this would cut off the fuel system completely. Makes sense but time will tell!

Hats off to the AA though, they turned up 10 minutes after I rang - lucky I guess as the initial time was 80 minutes, but they guy was only 6 miles up the road. Would be nice if this was a cheap fault given recent repair bills!

exactly the same thing happened to me and it was the crankshaft sensor! easy to change and cost £30 for a new one. the fuel pump is controlled via the crank sensor so no revolututions, no fuel! aa took a little longer to get to me but cant win em all!

I called out the AA on Christmas morning because some 'tool' had decided it would be a good idea to stick a screwdriver through my tyre and I couldn't get the alloy locking key to work.

Guy was really great about it - just a normal day for him - no extra pay as he was on contract hours - in fact, he liked it as he was less busy and spent some time at home between calls - it was expected to be a quiet day.

Called them out a few times and have only praise for them.
