    Dump Valve and Stnadard Recirc...

Hi. I have recently decided to play around with the dump valve on my astra GSi to see if i can change the sound to a more wastegate sound. I have disconnected the standard recirc valve and then blocked the bailey dv off as well. It sounds great and i find the car boosts slighty better, as have been having problems with a flat spot with the boost after cs3 map. Is this a bad setup and likely to cause me problems having both the bailey and oe dv blocked off?

    Thanks
    Astra GSi Mk4

there are MANNNNY opinions on this.............

you would of pretty much been safe if you were running standard boost but youre not so it could cause turbo failure in the long run

i thought doing this caused the air to rush back into the turbo and damaging the impeller blades

it does but on standard boost its shouldn't cause too much if any damage

the higher the boost the more air that comes back into the turbo therefore more damage

but there will be someone else shortly who will say it will kill your turbo straight away, like i say there are a million and one opinions on this

The chatter noise can only be caused on the standard turbo by causing compressor stall, ie the air being forced back into the turbo against the flow of the blades.

You can get dump valves with a much stronger spring/piston that only dump on full boost so you get the chatter on say anything under 1bar of boost.

However, it's not something I'd recommend having seen how many VXR and Z20LET units have failed

not my choice tbh but its not my turbo! if on standard boost it does no harm then why do turbos have oem blow offs????? they are there for a reason!!!!

there is no way id ever run mine with both disconected! asking for premature wear of the shaft, bearings and impellors! not worth it for the cost of a new turbo!

thanks for the replies. I thought this may be a debatable topic lol.

i will re connect the oe recirc i think. Can anyone recommend a better dump valve than the bailey then that will give a bit more noise...
