    ABS Question

    Hey Everyone

Just joined the forum (hope ive picked the right place to post this thread)

I have a question about my mk4 Astra G. It's a 52 plate 1.6 Sxi and i was wondering if they come standard with ABS?

I was driving round the corner, off the main road into a junction and the car skidded, and wheels locked up. I have tested the ABS before and nothing happens, the car loses control and skids.

Could there be a problem with my ABS? or does my car just not have it, I thought astra's came stanrad with ABS

    thankyou for your help

Not a standard feature on the 1.6 SXi's, was standard on the 1.8 models, and had to be bought extra if you wanted it on the 1.6 so my guess is you don't have it.

When you start the engine do you see the 'ABS' light on the dash for a second or two? If not then you definetly don't have it.

It's only standard on the 1.8, 2.2 and 2.0DTi, and was optional on all other cars until 2004 when it became standard across the range.

My housemate's 1.4 LS Mk4 (on a 53 plate) has ABS, as did his 1.7CDTi 54-plate Sport (until he wrote it off).

    There's still a few 1.8's that don't have ABS, like my 52reg.

yup just to clarify.... ABS was NOT standard on the 1.8 models

if a 1.8 had 4 studs it had 256mm discs and NO ABS
if a 1.8 had 5 studs it had 280mm discs and ABS

All 1.4/1.6 had 4 studs and ABS was an option across the range - all had 256mm discs fitted tho

Anyway - thats got nothin to do with the original post but just thought Id mention it

You arent missing out on much, theres no feel to what the brakes and wheels are doing on my astra... i prefer no ABS as it is much more fun and envolving to drive with, plus you can feel what is happening under your foot
