    Quick exhaust question

Hello all, I have a problem with my central exhaust silencer and so need to replace it.

    My car is a 1999 1.6 SXi 3dr.

The one I have at the moment looks like the one on this listing:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=190235513891

However, I have also found one that looks different, yet apparently still fits my car:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=190235513670

Can anyone help? Would the other type still work/fit???

    YES it will fit

all centre sections from the normally aspirated (ie non turbo) petrol models are the same providing they have the same 2 bolt flange fitment at the rear (like in both pictures) - some models featured a sleeve fitment (similar to the front - where one pipe slips over the other)

Smaller engines like the 1.6 8v etc used a smaller central silencer than the larger engines but the physical dimensions of both are identical therefore are interchangeable.

You might be able to get them cheaper from a local motor factors tho - instead of online - usually with same day delivery too.

If u want a little more grunt tho - how about a straight through pipe for about £30 more from Remus and the likes...mated with an uprated backbox....

If u just want a straight forward replacement tho, the cheapest link above will work - although I would still try a local motor shop first.

To be honest, I'm not too clued up when it comes to exhaust systems....

So could you answer the following questions about a straight through pipe:

    1. What are its benefits?

    2. Is it simple to fit (e.g. clamped in place or lots of welding)?

    3. What else needs removing or just my central silencer?

Also, could you please point me towards an example of what I should be looking for (e.g. ebay or online shop)??

    Thanks
    Adam

a striaght through or race tube may improve performance and may sound louder and should be a direct fit u may want to consider changin the back box aswell, although theres always the question of back pressure causing power loss
