Angry I have no common sense!!

    Hi,

This proves I have very little common sense but I think I have found out the hard way.

On sunday I filled my car up with oil drove the car down the road and all of a sudden it started kickout serious amounts of smoke...yes I put too much oil in! I pulled over immediatly and then went back to the car and drained the oil sump. The car smoked heavilly for about half hour I was trying to burn all the oil that was left in the exhaust through. I took the car out last night for a drive to burn off any extra oil.

As a result fo this the car now has a black spot when I accelerate it slightly jerks forward then kicks in. I am gutted about this i know it could be a number of things but don't know what exactly. I love the car and want to get it fixed properly its a astra coupe 2002 SE2. The slight blank spot could still be becasue there is oil in there so it could improve.

The plan now is too waint until my MOT in november then if it needs a new cat it will come up on the MOT. What do you think I don't want to cause anymore damage to the car what should I do?

    Thanks I have a 1.8.

Is it an easy thing to take the CAT off should I get a garage to do it.

It is running better today seems to be improving everyday.

if you take the cat off and clean it then I think you will completely destroy it. Cats run at approx 600deg C + so any oil hitting it will turn to vapour. Personally I would saw the best way to clean it is to take the car out, find a really big hill then drive up it in a low gear and high revs. This will generate maximum exhaust heat to burn the oil off quickly. The low power spot is probably the O2 sensor either covered in oil (which you can burn off) or the hole in it is blocked with carbon from the oil that has already burnt off

    lambda sensor???

The car has improved I will go up a steep hill tonight in a low gear like you said. I am going to see how it goes got an MOT and major service in november because it reaches 60k so I will see if anything comes up there.

Cheers for your help hopefully I will have nothing like this too report my next post should be off a new backbox on the car.

id put a big dose of redex into the fuel to help clean everything and use a premium fuel for next couple of tank full's.
