windows vista prem edition help please

I bought a new PC which came with vista premium edition. I used an application called winavi to convert a wmv file into a avi file. It did not work. Now, I have a 127kb .avi file, which will not delete??

When I try to delete it, all I get is the recycling box coming up with the 'calculating time' message. The bar is moving from left to right as if it is trying to delete the file, but it doesn't. I have tried rebooting pc and deleting again, but nothing seems to work.

    Any ideas

Restart in what passes as administration mode and try deleting it or when all else fails down load an iso of ubuntu and burn to cd, pop in and restart computer.
Ubuntu will load into a full os, open ubuntu file manager and look for your hd.
Look for where you put the file and delete.
Look for ubuntu's trash can (bottom right of screen) and click empty trash.
Shutdown ubuntu, remove cd and reboot into vista.
look for a folder called .trash and delete.

NO I'M NOT GOING TO BASH ON ABOUT DELETING WINBLOZE IN FAVOUR OF LINUX. !!! BUT IF ALL ELSE FAILS THIS IS THE SORT OF OVERKILL THING LINUX IS GOOD FOR !

    Just reboot,
Go into safemode (F8 at start up) - choose safemode and delete it.

No need to download ubunto or redhat or what not.

Thanks didn't know if it was still F8 of vista
Redcrap? bah Fedora core, Red hat is one of the specialised company used versions that carry a heavy price tag.

For reference, is it Vista Service Pack 1? Makes a decent difference to file handling speed including deletion of them etc.

It happened after vsp1 was automatically installed. Then again, vista can be a nightmare with some software.

My laptop is still crap with vista, everything takes ten years or it will just decide to restart. Thought service pack one would save the day but its still a steaming pile.
    Goodbye

    Its pointless on a laptop.
Delete vista and install eather xp of Linux on your laptop.
When I brought my lappy it took vista 2 hrs just to get from the factory realise mod to slighly usable.
Why do they put it on machine that can't handle it.
