    Oil Change, Flushing and Recommendations

    Hi all

My cars a Z18xe. The oil is a bit to black for my liking and I would like to perform a flush of the engine oil and replace with a very good engine oil.

Should I just stick with VX oil or is it worth going for another brand?

What do I use to flush the oil?

    Thanks

1 major tip mate.....dont use specific "engine flush" its the work of the devil!!!

More often than not it'll cause more damage than do good.....by unplugging any minor holes and imperfections that may have been built up over the years.

My advice if you really wanna flush the engine is to run a cheapo oil for a few hundred miles then dump it then whack in some fresh premium stuff.

If, like me, u have shed loads of VOF93s lying around then whack a fresh filter on each time.... but if not then just replace the filter once.

As for what oil to use ..... its a debate which will continue for ever.

My personal recommendation for your particular engine would be a nice 10w40 - preferrably fully synth (£30-40) or a semi synth if ur budget is about £15-30

I can get it even cheaper due to trade prices at various outlets but for most ppl then the above prices are about right.

Opieoils is a good place to look and prices are quite competitive for those who dont have access to a trade network.

One major factor here though, is the frequency at which you change the oil..... Personally I like to do so every 3000-5000 miles but it all depends which engine u have, with your Z18 I would advise a good 6mth interval or once a year if u cant stretch to that.... (5000/10000 mile roughly)

I'm sure that my Vauxhall services all included an engine flush - I am kinda of the opinion that using it from day one is better than using it for the first time after a good few miles on the car.

GB makes a good suggestion though, run the cheap oil which will pick up most of the older muck, then drain it and use some decent stuff.

    Avoid engine flush

Just change the oil every 5000 miles with some nice 5w-40 fully synthetic

    thanks guys, some decent advice

I'll run replace with standard VX 10w40. Let that get horrid then replace with some Magnatec or similar. I'll ask Opie.
