Road Tax Law? 14 day grace period?

Road tax is all abit in the air at the moment

My new car has no tax on it, i am insuring it tomorrow, so how do i go about tax'ing it?

The dealer said as i have a receipt from him i have a 14 day grace period because i can prove when i bought the car?

If your buying it from a dealer then they should tax it before you drive off in it provided you show/give him the cover note I would have thought.

Nope hes wrong, get a cover notice policy from your insuer, website or something or wait for the post then take that + mot and log book to a post office or do it online.

Police will stop it, will show up on an APR camera and impound it.

You need tax to drive it on the road.
There is no grace period any more.
Park it off road till the 1st or leave it at the traders till then

First day I bought my car it had no tax, couldn't buy it until the paper work came back from DVLA having bought the car and then blow me got stopped on the way back after buying it. Told them what the situ was and they said don't worry - fair enough when buying cars, get it done soon and gave me a producer.

What with ANPR cameras and what not now, it's risky as a fine could be sent direct to your door.

I couldn't do mine online after buying it. They sent the documents off straight away and you need the code specifically for you from the DVLA ownership document for online tax renewal.

Get the garage to tax it for you. When I purchased my car they refused to let me take it away before it was taxed and insured. I thought it was great that they were ensuring I took responsibility.
