    Civic VTi for £850

I have been quoted £800 to fix my Astra, which has 108600k on the clock and wasnt in the best condition - cam gasket needed changing..lots of body work damage

My friend at work has had a Civic VTi unused for 11 months but it wont start. He says there's a problem with the relay box but it's easily sorted and cheaply too. The reason he's giving it me so cheap is because I've known him for about 18 years and he's getting a beetle this week.

He emailed me the list of goods and bads. Please tell me if you tihnk it's worth buying or biting the bullet and repairing my Astra.

    Good
    • The cars a CIVIC VTi with the 170bhp (standard) engine (B16A2) 87k miles
      Loads of history
      Rare black
      Manual
      New gearbox/driveshafts from 45k 2000 car cost £700+
Engine was rebuild about 2 years ago using skimmed performance head gasket, ported etc... cost £600
Cambelt done at 85k cost £180
Last MOT had loads done, bushes, shocks, exhaust, lambada sensor, brakes, etc...
Spare set of 14" enkei alloys
Twin Invo titanium exhausts cost over £600 per backbox, and stainless stell custom pipework.
      18" alloys

    Bad

    • The car has been stood for about 11 mths and wont start, batterys flat etc...
    • The car has a few scratches and dings, and a little surface rust by arches (v.small),
    • The last owner repaired the rusty tailgate and rear drivers tailgate and didnt do a very good job, never bothered me.
    • The front lights need fitting properly due to removing angel eye style ones.
    • Alloys are kerbed in places and has 1 flat tyre (slow puncture).
    • Car has bonnet pins as latch was remove when i kept getting stuck-looks good though.
    • Maybe a few other minor things as it is a 93 car, but can be viewed...
    Now for pictures

That civic is a potential money pit, plus honda parts aren't cheap.

I'd scrap the astra, and buy something other than the civic personally

exhausts are mental - too mental maybe

for 850 its not a bad car - but like the others have said could be quite expensive especially the electrics (old jap cars are not re-nowned for there sparks lol)

My astra has been nothing but a money pit

It depends what my dad will do. £800 to get it all fixed..or £850 for the civic, then I have to pay for insurance (will be massive cuz its modified) tax & mot.

I forgot about all that :/ so may just stick with getting the astra repaired.

Tlee just thought id leave a message to help you mate...

i had one of them b16s, and trust me, they perform awesome, when u rev it at a stand still, the car rocks in all...all the stuff thats wrong with the car is easily fixable...btw...people on here who say they are expensive, and potential money pit...not true at all...that car is very reliable, honda defo make good engines. The engine block is strong as a brick and i can guarentee that car can pack a punch when modded correctly...I know a guy who got one running at 285bhp, and it beats focus rs, runs next to evo8s etc...

Tlee...its one of them choices where u just got to go with your gut feeling...but if u spent lil bit of money on the civic, it will be well worth it..also, the mileage on the civic is definitly not bad for its age, considering your astra has high mileage...and at 120k, the civic would still shift like a b1tch...so have a good think...but defo, u wont be disappointed with that b16 engine

unfortunately it looks like I wont be able to afford it. You'll probably tihnk "but you can afford £800 to repair your astra" but then there's insurance, tax and MOT to consider, as well as getting it working again which will put the cost over £1000.

I can get the parts I need for the astra either either really cheap or for free..plus i wont have oyu guys to help me out when something goes wrong if I took the civic :P
