    New Astra CDTI SRi

Try to be non bias here

Hi guys im looking for some input from owners of the New Astra 5 door CDTI SRI 150. I currently own an Audi A3 1.9 se and have done since February but im having alot of comfort issues with the seats and my company have agreed for me to order a new vehicle.

I have narrowed it down to either the Astra SRI cdti 150 5 door in white with the comfort seating option or the Volvo S40 S 2.0D with the zaurak alloys in white. What would you do? I dont have choices on extras other than those mentioned and the models are as stated and cannot be deviated from as they are company specified.

I have a test drive of the Astra Wednesday and am still awaiting the test on the Volvo so maybe that will help me decied as my choice is based on comfert and fun to drive so the test drive is the probably the only way to decide.

    Many thanks Ian

I wouldnt say the SRi 1.9 is a cumfy ride, but then the one i drove didnt have the comfort pack (I dont think). Dont get me wrong it isnt really harsh, but you can still feel bumps etc

I have the 1.9 cdti and love it, but then i have never driven the volvo, or any volvo for that matter, so cant really comment fairly.

The volvo looks awesome from the front, but i hate the rear!

Best thing to do is go and test drive both of them mate and then choose which one you want.

Even tho the Volvo is a rather nice car, id rather go with the Astra 1.9 tbh especially in white it looks the best i think.
Up to you though, hopefully u make the right decision

I've voted for the astra - absolutely love mine especially with the dtuk chip on. I may be wrong but I suspect that this being an astra owners club you may get more votes for the astra and have a slightly biassed poll

Strange place to ask matey, the answers are going to be pretty one sided

My dad has a 57 plate S40 2.0D SE and it's a great car, I think I would still go for the Astra though. For a start my dad is in his 60s

Well, for suspension comfort, you don't want an SRi, and you definately don't want one with anything bigger than 17" alloys.

My motor has the same suspension as the SRi, and really it's fine round town and on country roads, but on motorways you get seriously jiggled. The car cannot cope with tiny surface imperfections. I'm running standard 17" rims with Extra Load tyres - some of that jiggliness is probably due to the harder sidewalls on the XL's.

Seating, well, the standard sport seats are 100%, they're the main reason I buy Vauxhalls is for the sport seats. The standard seats in the lower models are miserable, but the sport ones are fine. I'm wrecked in most cars after a few hours sitting, the Astra I can do 14 hours pretty much non-stop without a problem.

So, really, the seats are brilliant. The suspension not so much.

If you want brilliant seats and a more comfortable ride, then a Vectra SRi would suit, the suspension on those is better on motorways, and you get better seats again than the Astra.
